Project updates

You may have seen that we are currently doing surveys in Whitestone 1. These surveys are part of our Environmental Impact Assessment to help identify potential heritage assets, so that we can best protect and preserve them. They include a JCB to dig trial trenches, which will then be backfilled and returned to their original state. The survey areas include temporary fences and cameras in order to keep the team and equipment left in position safe, they are not to record anything else. These surveys should be complete by mid February, but you may see other members of our team on site doing other surveys as we work to complete the environmental assessments this spring.

We completed our second round of consultation on our updated masterplan and draft Environmental Statement in Autumn 2025. We have reviewed and considered all of the feedback we received. This feedback, alongside the results of environmental and technical assessments will inform the updated proposals and final Environmental Statement that we submit in our application for development consent later this spring. Project information

Whitestone is a proposed solar farm with associated battery storage that would be located in South Yorkshire between Rotherham and Doncaster and connect into the National Grid at the new Brinsworth Substation. The project is being developed by Green Nation and Net Zero One Ltd, and would make a significant contribution to national energy goals to reduce energy costs, create energy security and fight against climate change.

We have now closed our second round of consultation on our updated proposals for Whitestone. Click here to learn more and provide your feedback.

Development process

Because Whitestone would generate more than 50MW of energy, it is considered a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP). This means we need to apply for a Development Consent Order (DCO) which will be decided at the national level by the Secretary of State.
